Camera Fundamentals for Video (Weeks 1–4)

  • Shooting video on a smartphone, DSLR, or mirrorless — what changes when the camera records motion
  • Resolution and quality settings; managing big video files, cards, and batteries
  • Supporting the camera: tripod, handheld technique, stabilization
  • Project: the same scene shot three ways

Video Image Fundamentals (Weeks 5–11)

  • Exposure works differently in video — this is where we break from photography rules
  • Frame rates and slow motion, the 180° shutter rule, aperture and depth of field in motion, ISO
  • ND filters and exposure tools, white balance, focus on moving subjects
  • Project: properly exposed clips at normal speed and in slow motion

Audio Fundamentals (Weeks 12–14)

Composition & Camera Movement (Weeks 15–19)

  • Shooting for the edit: sequences, coverage, b-roll
  • Project: the classic five-shot sequence

Capture Fundamentals (Weeks 20–24)

  • Everything put to work in real scenarios
  • Interviews and talking-head, documentary and real life, nature and outdoor, low light, action
  • Project: a one-minute mini-documentary

Video Editing Fundamentals (Weeks 25–28)

  • Organizing footage, timeline editing, cuts and trims
  • Music, sound effects, and mixing
  • Color correction, titles, exporting
  • Bonus lessons: full edits in DaVinci Resolve and CapCut
  • Project: polish your documentary footage into a finished cut

The Final (Weeks 29–30)

  • Pre-production: plan your film and build a shot list
  • Produce it: shoot, edit, and deliver your 2–3 minute short film
